Community guidelines
Draft for review. This page is a starting template written for Tonga676. It is not legal advice and should be reviewed by a qualified lawyer (for example against the Australian Privacy Act 1988, the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and the Australian Consumer Law) before the site launches.
Tonga676 is a family space. Treat everyone the way you would in a fale or around the kava bowl: with fakaʻapaʻapa (respect), ʻofa (love) and good humour.
Please do
- Be kind and welcoming, especially to new members and young people.
- Disagree politely. Talk about ideas, not people.
- Keep it family-friendly: many members are parents, church members and elders.
- Use the Report button when something isn’t right, and let moderators handle it.
Not allowed
- Bullying, harassment, threats or targeting any person or family.
- Hate or abuse based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, island or village.
- Sexual content, or any content involving minors in a sexual way (reported to police).
- Sharing someone’s private information, photos or messages without their permission.
- Spam, scams, chain messages or repeated advertising outside the marketplace.
- Pretending to be someone else, including staff or public figures.
- Illegal activity, or encouraging self-harm or violence.
The Kava Bowl
The Kava Bowl is our relaxed social room, inspired by faikava: a circle for talanoa, stories, jokes and singing. Everyone is welcome there, whatever their background, and the same rules apply. Respect the circle.
What moderators may do
Moderators may remove messages or listings, give warnings, put an account in a timeout (read-only for a while), or ban accounts that break these guidelines. Serious breaches can lead to an immediate ban. If you think a decision was wrong, email us and an administrator will review it.
Your controls
- Mute hides a member’s chat messages from you.
- Block also stops them from messaging you privately.
- Report sends something to the moderators. The person isn’t told who reported them.
